Your tools are there to help you produce accurate work, so treat them accordingly.
Keep measuring equipment clean
Swarf, dirt and oil can affect measurements.
Clean your component before measuring it.
Keep measuring faces clean.
Return equipment to its proper storage.
Don't abuse precision equipment
A micrometer isn't a clamp.
A DTI isn't something to force into position.
A vernier shouldn't be thrown into a drawer full of heavy tools.
Treat precision equipment as precision equipment.
Keep your workspace organised
A tidy workstation isn't just about appearance.
It helps you work safely and efficiently.
If every tool has a place, you spend less time looking for things.
If you put a tool down and always return it to the same place, you are less likely to lose it.
That sounds simple, but small habits make a difference.
Look after machines too
Learn the machine manufacturer's and your employer's procedures for cleaning, lubrication, inspection and maintenance.
Don't start cleaning inside or around machinery unless you've been shown how to do it safely.
Your machine is a valuable piece of equipment.
Treat it that way.
